PROJECTS / LEOPARDI’S SEA

Leopardi’s
Sea.

The sea as distance, colour and space.

Leopardi’s Sea explores the coastline between Porto Recanati and Numana as the seasons change. It is the Adriatic landscape that opens out from the poet’s homeland, a distant presence in his verse and an opportunity to question the relationship between human beings and nature.

The making of this work was accompanied by reading his poetry and philosophical reflections. In the landscape, human-made presences encounter an expanse that exceeds them: they define space, measure its distance and open the gaze.

The infinite thus becomes a question addressed to our condition: finite beings, part of nature, yet capable of conceiving what lies beyond our measure. The photographs seek to dwell on this threshold, between the visible and what thought attempts to embrace.
